Paul Cadmus BALLET THEATRE 1951 Souvenir Program

The Ballet Theatre Foundation presented the Thirteenth Season of the BALLET THEATRE under the direction of LUCIA CHASE and OLIVER SMITH, featuring a rare oversized souvenir program. With an ambitious tour schedule that included 190 cities across thirteen countries, the company showcased an impressive ensemble of dancers, including IGOR YOUSKEVITCH, ALICIA ALONZO, JOHN KRIZA, MARY ELLEN MOYLAN, JEAN BABILEE, NATHALIE PHILIPPART, NORMA VANCE, RUTH ANN KOESUN, ERIC BRAUN, LILLIAN LANESE, ERIK BRUHN, PAULA LLOYD, MICHAEL LLAND, JENNY WORKMAN, CHARLYNE BAKER, KELLY BROWN, VIRGINIA BARNES, FERNAND NAULT, LIANE PLANE, ANGELA VELEZ, DOROTHY SCOTT, ENRIQUE MARTINEZ, VERNON LUSBY, JACK BEABER, SCOTT DOUGLAS, BARBARA LLOYD, RALPH McWILLIAMS, ISABEL MIRROW, LILA POPPER, IRMA GRANT, CATHERINE HORN, ROCHELLE BALZAR, LIDA KOEHRING, CHRISTINE MAYER, DULCE WOHNER, LUCINDA MACY, BEVERLY BARSANTI, WILLIAM WESLOW, ROBERT HANLIN, WILLIAM INGLIS, and WILLIAM BURDICK. Many of these dancers were captured in beautiful GEORGE PLATT LYNES photographs featured in the program.

The 1951-52 season's repertoire included works by renowned composers such as AARON COPLAND, LEONARD BERNSTEIN, MORTON GOULD, VON WEBER, TCHAIKOVSKY, MEYERBEER, CHOPIN, PROKOFIEFF, OFFENBACH, and BELA BARTOK. The choreographers featured in the season were MICHEL FOKINE, AGNES DeMILLE, JEAN COCTEAU, GEORGE BALANCHINE, JEROME ROBBINS, FREDERICK ASHTON, MICHAEL KIDD, LEONIDE MASSINE, and DIMITRI ROMANOFF.

The 24-page program, measuring 9" x 12", includes full production credits, photographs of several company members, a list of the ballets presented during the season, and the award-winning cover design by PAUL CADMUS entitled "Reflections". Cadmus received the Ford Mayer Witkowsky Prize at the Art Institute of Chicago for this painting. Aside from a bumped corner at the top right and a light crease in the outside edge of the cover's color plate, the rare program is in excellent condition.
